Texas-headquartered BloodRayne developer Terminal Reality has announced that Mexican horror director Guillermo del Toro has signed on to help develop a new intellectual property for the company, named Sundown. The game, intended for unspecified next generation consoles, will challenge players to survive a supernatural apocalypse, as they face legions of zombie like creatures. Del Toro has previously described himself as an avid gamer, and has been linked to the Halo movie adaptation, to be produced by The Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson. His previous cinematic work includes comic adaptations Hellboy and Blade II, as well as more serious horror fare such as Cronos and The Devil’s Backbone. "I believe in the next ten years, narrative media is going to shift to a hybrid of video games and movies," said del Toro. "This is a great opportunity for me to help be a bridge to what I believe is the future. We want to create a real beginning, middle and end to the game and to each set piece of the game too. I want to make some of the atmospheric elements in the game very, very scary." As part of the deal, del Toro will retain the television and movie rights to the new franchise, and will be featured prominently in the game’s marketing. No release date for the first game in the proposed series has yet been announced.
