In a series dubbed Decisive Battles, The History Channel has recreated ancient, large-scale battles on Mediterranean terrain using videogame technology—in fact, it uses the same engine that’s behind Rome: Total War, a soon-to-be-available game that Activision displayed at E3 2004. Players looking for strategic tips based on history can tune in for episodes recreating the Battles of Cannae (Hannibal of Carthage), Gaugamela (Alexander the Great), and Marathon (Greeks vs. the Persian Empire’s army). The series will premiere on The History Channel July 23 at 9 p.m.
