IGDA’s Della Rocca Resigns

The International Game Developers Association (IGDA) today announced that Jason Della Rocca will step down as executive director, effective March 31. Having served the IGDA for nearly nine years, Della Rocca, who is departing to focus on a new venture, will assist the non-profit’s board of directors in the search for his successor. He will remain involved after March 31 to facilitate the transition process. “I am humbled and honored to have been a steward of the IGDA's mission,” said Della Rocca in a press release. “Each day was a race to keep up with the passion and energy of members and volunteers in their drive to advance games. I am forever grateful for the enriching experience, and look forward to assisting the Board on a smooth transition.” During Della Rocca's tenure, the IGDA grew its membership from 500 to 15,000 members, expanded its network of chapters to more than 70 locations worldwide, established the Studio Affiliation program now with more than 120 engaged development studios, and advocated extensively on issues such as quality of life and games as a form of expression worthy of free speech protections. In recent years under Della Rocca’s leadership, the IGDA has become one of the foremost bodies for game development students, aspiring game developers, as well as educators working in the game development space. The organization’s Special Interest Group on Education has made huge advancements in united universities and colleges through its curriculum workshop and a whitepaper of suggested curricula for game development programs. “Jason has tirelessly served the IGDA for nearly 9 years, and we are thankful for all that he has done for the community,” Jen MacLean, IGDA Chairperson and senior vice president of business development of 38 Studios, said in a press release. “We wish him the best of luck with his future endeavors and look forward to an exciting year for the IGDA.” In 2008, the IGDA grew membership by 17 percent, in addition to organizing its second leadership forum event. The IGDA Board will appoint a task force to coordinate the search for a new executive director.
