Immersion resolved its patent dispute with Microsoft which agreed to pay a total of $35 million for licensing rights to Immersion's sense-of-touch (haptic) technology.
Under the settlement, Microsoft will pay Immersion $26 million for the rights to haptic technologies for use in Microsoft's products. The payment gives Microsoft an unspecified equity stake in Immersion, which sued Microsoft, as well as Sony, in February 2002. Microsoft also agreed to provide Immersion with $9 million in convertible debt. Immersion has rights on the debt for two years. Immersion said in a press release Monday that its patent infringement lawsuit against Sony is still pending.
