In2games Limited today announced that it will be unveiling its Gametrak motion-sensing game controller at GDC later this month. Designed using different tracking scheme than previous systems (details of its operation are only available under NDA), the company claims that it doesn't suffer lag or processor overhead as accelerometers, RF, or infrared systems do. The first game to support the controller will be a PS2 fight game, although the USB-based controller will also connect to PCs and Xbox consoles, although no games supporting the controller on those platforms have been announced yet. From the information available on In2games' web site, it is not clear if Gametrak senses movement with a full 6DOF, though it seems likely it is only a 3DOF device--capable of sensing translation, but not rotation, on the XYZ axes. Also unclear is whether the output of the controller conforms with either the "Multi-Axis Controller" or "3D Game Controller" classes in the USB HID specification, which would make the device easier to support across platforms.
