Baldur’s Gate creator Interplay Entertainment Corp. re-opened its doors to employees yesterday after being shut for at least two days due to a lapse in workers’ compensation insurance. California’s Department of Industrial Relations, Division of Labor Standards Enforcement, fined the company $79,000 for the violation, reported the Orange County Register. Interplay, which is steeped in unpaid payroll taxes, has come up short on payroll and owes some employees as much as several weeks’ wages. The company’s majority owner, France-based Titus Interactive, filed for bankruptcy Monday, although Interplay officials stated that Titus’s financial status will not affect the developer.
