Nintendo has been speaking out more openly since the release of its latest financial report, with the latest report from Bloomberg quoting president Iwata saying the company has over 45 titles in development for its Wii, and 79 for its Nintendo DS. Iwata gave no further details or specifics, and the company traditionally has in development at any given point, a number of titles that in the end fail to see retail release. The news does counter popular perceptions, though, that the Wii will see a similar drought of first party releases that it did on the GameCube. Iwata told Bloomberg that the first batch of these new titles would "be introduced to the market at the end of 'summer.'" His comments come as some industry analysts are wondering aloud if the console and handheld's success are as kind to third parties as they are to Nintendo itself, who sold 123.55 million units of DS software, and 23.84 million Wii titles throughout the past fiscal year. Iwata has also promised that the Wii console shortages that are currently plaguing every territory are "abnormal," and that the company would "do [its] best" to fix the lack of stock.
