In a relatively slow week for sales and new releases, the number one selling video game title in Japan has just failed to sell more than 100,000 – the usual expected minimum at most times of the year. Nevertheless, a total of 90,946 units for new PS2 release .hack//G.U. Vol. 1: Saitan, subtitled Rebirth in the West and part of a new trilogy of .hack role-playing games, has still performed well for Bandai. There are no other new releases in the top ten though, with Konami’s BeatMania IIDX 11: IIDX Red, Nintendo’s new Game Boy Advance soccer game and Namco’s Unou no Tatsujin: Gunbullet Trainer (to be known as Point Blank DS in the West, but where Unou no Tatsujin translates as "Right Brain Master", apparently in reference to Nintendo's Brain Training games) kept just outside of the top flight, at numbers eleven, twelve and thirteen respectively. The release of New Super Mario Bros. on the Nintendo DS is likely to have a significant impact on the charts next week, with Nintendo DS hardware sales increasing by 75 percent this week in anticipation, for a total of 177,049 (including 16,867 of the original version of the hardware). The PSP was in second place with 24,457 unit sales, followed by 20,633 sales for the PlayStation 2. The Game Boy Advance family of consoles accounted for 8,444 unit sales, followed by the Xbox 360 at 1,403 and the GameCube at 1,051.
