Following media reports this morning, Australian Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Game Room developer Krome Studios has confirmed an undisclosed number of layoffs. Websites like consumer site IGN UK reported 30-50 employees were let go, but in a brief statement to G4 confirming the news, Krome did not specify how many were affected. "We regret to confirm an unspecified number of positions have been eliminated today at Krome," said the statement. "The industry worldwide is facing new challenges and Krome is not immune to the effects of this," it continued. "Beyond that, we cannot make a comment." Krome last instituted layoffs in November of 2009, citing the difficult economy. At the time, it claimed status as Australia's largest, with over 400 full-time staffers. The studio was founded in Brisbane in 1999. In addition to its work with LucasArts and its development of the Game Room virtual arcade for the Xbox 360 platform, it's also known for Ty the Tasmanian Tiger. Additionally, Krome has contributed work major licenses including Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen and Viva Pinata: Party Animals, and is currently at work on the original downloadable title Blade Kitten.
