There’s been another hive of activity this week in the Japanese sales charts with Dynasty Warriors makers Koei scoring an instant number one with Sengoku Musou. The real surprise winners this week though are Nintendo’s series of “Famicom Mini” titles – budget priced Game Boy Advance games featuring classic NES titles from Nintendo themselves, Namco and Hudson. The surprise loser is EyeToy: Play, which despite its immense popularity in Europe has only scraped into the top ten in Japan, amidst generally consumer apathy. The hardware sales this week are also of note with combined Game Boy Advance sales accounting for an incredible 62.84% of the market, the PlayStation 2 just 30.97%, the GameCube a disastrous 5.11% and the Xbox a paltry 0.47% - just 0.04% more than the PS one. Nintendo and Microsoft’s machines clearly suffering from no major release all year in a market that is driven be new releases.
