Weekly sales have again decreased in Japan and are less than half of the weekly average. However, the figures are a slight improvement on the same time last year, which lends some credence to suggestions that the Japanese market is slowly recovering from its slump. Nintendo have again dominated the top ten with five separate titles, although new entry Mario vs. Donkey Kong has fallen short of the top slot, which is still occupied by Sammy’s pachinko simulator. In hardware sales the Game Boy Advance has just squeezed ahead of the PlayStation 2 with a 46.49% market share, compared to 43.92% for Sony’s console. The GameCube continues its slow crawl back towards double figures at 8.44%, while the Xbox continues to suffer at 0.70%.
