One of the busiest weeks so far in the Japan has seen seven new releases in the top ten, with the leader being role-playing game Dragon Warrior V. The biggest RPG series in Japan, bigger even than Final Fantasy, this latest entry in the franchise is actually a remake of an earlier SNES title, which added nostalgia factor has resulted in 1,117,000 sales in the first week – over half the number of games sold in total that week. By comparison the number two title – another portable Dragon Ball Z beat ‘em-up – sold approximately 78,000 units. With most of the rest of the chart composed of new entries the Famicom Mini series of Game Boy Advance titles (to be sold in the west as the ‘Classic NES’ series) continues to do well with over 900,000 units sold. The release of Dragon Warrior V has had a significant effect on hardware sales with the PlayStation 2 achieving its best performance so far this year with a 52.79% market share, followed by combined Game Boy Advance sales of 39.80%, GameCube at a new low of 6.15%, Xbox at 0.61%, Bandai SwanCrystal at 0.33% and PS one at 0.32%.
