According to figures from the NPD Group the Xbox is the only current console to “continuously demonstrate positive market share growth on a year-over-year basis”. Over the last six months sales of the Xbox have increased in the US by 6%, whereas the PS2 has decreased by 36% and the GameCube by 22%. This gives the Xbox a 27% share of the US games market. Microsoft have also been keen to emphasize August software sales figures that show a 58% increase on the same time last year and a 17% jump in sales of the Xbox Live starter kit.
