Opinion: How will Project 2025 impact game developers?
The Heritage Foundation's manifesto for the possible next administration could do great harm to many, including large portions of the game development community.
EA Sports boss Peter Moore responds to President Obama's recent comments that healthy lifestyles mean "raising our children to step away from the video games" -- by suggesting he try his company's EA Sports Active 30-day challenge.
EA Sports boss Peter Moore would like President Obama to try EA Sports Active to experience the possible health benefits of some kinds of video games. At the annual meeting of the American Medical Association in Chicago recently, Obama said that a healthy U.S. population means "going for a run or hitting the gym, and raising our children to step away from the video games and spend more time playing outside." On his official blog, Moore supported the President's sentiments on more physical activity as a key part of a healthy lifestyle, but suggested: "Of course, I can’t resist pointing out that while I’ve always wholeheartedly endorsed moderation in anything you do, including playing games, it may be time for the President and his family to put their Wii to good use and fire up the 30-Day Challenge with EA Sports Active." "This is a 'game' even the President may not want to 'step away' from," added Moore -- even noting that despite the President's visible state of "good shape," the lunge exercises in EA Sports Active might give him a fair challenge. Moore lauded not only the opportunities for exercise afforded by the Wii's motion controls, but the initiatives unveiled by Sony and Microsoft at E3 to incorporate full-body gaming on their platforms as well, calling them "refreshing" and praising their potential to enhance fitness gaming. "In fact, I’d be willing to bet there are more consoles getting far more use in American homes than there is exercise equipment, so it’s up to us to continue to use the platform for good," concluded Moore.
