Harmonix and MTV Games have announced that heavy metal band Mötley Crüe will be the first group to release a new single as a playable track in Rock Band. The song, "Saints of Los Angeles," will be available for $0.99 on the Xbox Live Marketplace starting April 15th and on the PlayStation Store starting April 17th. Released under Mötley Record, Mötley Crüe's current record label for which Hip-O Records and Universal Music Group manages physical distribution, "Saints of Los Angeles" will be downloaded directly into users' Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 hard drives after the song is purchased. To date, gamers have purchased and downloaded over six million Rock Band tracks since the title's launch on November 20, 2007. More than 80 downloadable songs are currently available through the Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation Store. British heavy metal group Def Leppard intends to follow Mötley Crüe's lead and release its own downloadable single, "Nine Lives," through Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock on April 24th, a week before the song is available anywhere else.
