[UPDATED: 10:00am PST] Today's regularly updated newsbriefs include news of New York Times best-selling author Lorenzo Carcaterra writing the script for Atari's upcoming Alone in the Dark, and the release of a demo for Microsoft's upcoming Forza Motorsport 2, which has just gone gold. - Officials from Atari have announced that the upcoming next-gen release of Alone in the Dark from Eden Games will feature a script penned by New York Times best-selling author Lorenzo Carcaterra. The action title is being developed for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, however a firm release date has not yet been announced. An American writer, Carcaterra is most widely recognized for his book Sleepers, which was later adapted for a major motion picture in 1996. "Alone in the Dark was a challenge which allowed me to bring a realistic feel to an apocalyptic situation facing New York City and really dig into the Central Park conspiracy idea," said Carcaterra. "It also allowed me to write for hard-edged characters, some good, some bad, all forced to confront a force whose power they could never imagine. The story never stalls, always moves in overdrive and the characters zoom right along at warp speed, stopping long enough along the way to say a few lines that keep driving the plot forward. The end result is, I hope, a roller-coaster of a thrill ride that should be tons of fun to play." - Microsoft Game Studios has announced that its upcoming Xbox 360 racing sequel Forza Motorsport 2 has gone gold, and that a playable demo of the game's campaign mode is now available for download over Xbox Live. Developed by Turn 10 Studios, Forza Motorsport 2 is expected to arrive at retail on May 29, and will include more than 300 different cars, 24 of which are featured in the single player demo. The full game will also include the ability to tune, trade, paint and collect players' favorite cars, which can be shared and sold on the "Forza Motorsport 2" online Auction House.
