Nintendo says its Wii has reached 30 million units sold in the U.S., a milestone it says makes it the fastest-selling console in the history of the game industry after 45 months on the market. The console launched in the 2006 holiday season at $250, sold in white and bundled with Wii Sports. Currently it's sold in both black and white models for $199 bundled with both Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, and the MotionPlus enhancement accessory, having cut its price only once in its time on the market. Nintendo said in its most recent earnings report that worldwide, the Wii had sold nearly 74 million units as of June 30. Nintendo says it hopes to further drive users with its upcoming fall launch slate, which includes new installments in some of its key properties: Metroid: Other M, Kirby's Epic Yarn and Wii Party all slated for fall releases (Other M will hit August 31). Upcoming Wii titles from third-party publishers include Ubisoft's Just Dance 2, Disney's Epic Mickey and GoldenEye 007 from Activision. "More than any other video game system in history, Wii has expanded the world of video games to new audiences,” said Nintendo of America sales and marketing VP Cammie Dunaway.
