Freescale Semiconductor, operator of the Game Technology Organization, and Nintendo of America are working together to offer console development experience to game development students at nationwide universities. The joint product will bundle the CodeWarrior programming environment with Nintendo's GameCube development hardware to allow students to get hands-on experience with a console system. "Console devices and games dominate the video game industry, but most university classes still teach game development using PC platforms," said Game Technology Organization manager Roger Edgar. "Our new offering addresses this disconnect by providing resources that teach students game development fundamentals on the kinds of closed-system platforms most common in the industry." "By teaming with Freescale, we want to help universities produce developers capable of generating world class content for Nintendo platforms early in their careers," said Nintendo of America software development support director Ramin Ravanpey. "The program is one of the ways Nintendo is working to ensure that the best and brightest young talent are able to leverage the full power and capabilities of Nintendo game technology."
