Australian distributor RSJ IT Solutions must pay Nintendo $520,000 in damages for selling R4 mod chips, a Federal court has ruled. According to a report in Australian site ITNews, Nintendo had sued the company for selling the chip through its online store, gadgetgear.com.au -- as part of the legal decision against RSJ IT and its affiliates, Patrick and James Li, the distributor must also now cease selling the R4 chips. The Lis may now no longer sell R4 chips anywhere in Australia, and they are fined an additional $100,000, ruled the court. They must also identify for the court all suppliers from which they purchased chips for sale in the region. R4 chips let users download and play games illegally on DS consoles. Distributors sometimes are able to sell the chips by claiming their intended use is to enable homebrew software, legal play of games from other regions, or for making backups. According to ITNews, Nintendo won another piracy suit just two weeks ago against a Brisbane man who must now pay the company $1.5 million for leaking New Super Mario Bros. Wii to the internet before it released in Australia.
