Palmsource has announced that it has joined the Khronos Group, developers of the OpenGL ES 3D API for mobile entertainment devices, and its plans to include support for the standard in its forthcoming Cobalt operating system. The company plans on including a software OpenGL ES renderer in the OS, so that any Cobalt-based device will be able to offer support for it--even those models that don't include any 3D hardware acceleration. Palmsource's status as a Contributing Member will enable it to participate in the continuing development of the standard, and further broadens the platforms on which the API will be available.
