Infinium Labs’s unveiling of their Phantom console today once more failed to answer most of the leading questions about the venture, the most obvious being: is it for real? Even the technical specifications of the machine remain unclear with phrases such as “up to” a 3.0Ghz processor and a “high performance” NVIDIA graphics card being used. The physical appearance of the console was revealed though with what appeared to be a very large Xbox-style design. The revelation that the Phantom will be running a version of Windows XP Embedded was one of the few concrete facts at hand, although bizarrely there was still no sign of developer or publisher deals that would back-up the claim of “thousands” of games available for launch. Pre-orders for the machine will apparently begin in October.
