In a counter to yesterday’s announcement by Nintendo – concerning their success over the Thanksgiving period – SCEA officials have announced that November sales of the PlayStation 2 have exceeded 1.3 million units. However, the carefully worded press release never directly disputes Nintendo’s claim to have outsold all other home console during the narrower Thanksgiving weekend period. The PlayStation 2 installed user base for the US is now put at 22.5 million, with sales of first party software up by 90% in November, with over 800,000 units sold. In related news SCEE officials have announced that UK sales figures for the PlayStation 2 are now just 100,000 units short of five million. Xbox sales in the country are even closer to reaching the 1 million mark, with the GameCube 300,000 behind that. The GameCube though is the only home console to show a percentage increase in sales, compared to 2002.
