Polhemus has announced its latest magnetic tracking product--Patriot, which offers greater performance than its previous models. The company describes this as a "quantum leap" over ther older technology. The Patriot system offers both serial and USB interfaces, features a 60Hz update speed for the sensors, and uses DSP for improved signal-to-noise ratio, which results in better stability and resolution. With a starting price of $2,500 for a two-channel tracker, Polhemus touts this as the most affordable and simplest to use 6DOF tracking system. The Patriot joins the existing Fastrak and Liberty tracking systems. (Liberty offers an update rate of 240Hz, for those with the need to capture fast movement more accurately.)
