Sony has announced the latest 1.81 firmware for its PlayStation 3 console, addressing “some small issues” with the RGB Full and Limited options added to the console's XMB menu in May's 1.80 update.
Sony has announced the latest 1.81 firmware for its PlayStation 3 console, addressing consumer complaints with RGB settings introduced by the earlier released 1.80 update. According to Sony's PlayStation Network director Eric Lempel, the update aims to fix “some small issues” with the RGB Full and Limited options added to the console's XMB menu in May. Adding to this, Lempel also writes that Sony is “continually evaluating and improving PS2 software compatibility too.” The update was announced on the company's recently launched official blog, which Lempel notes will be used to announce similar updates in the future. Writes Lempel, “In 1.80 we added an option to the XMB under settings allowing you to choose between RGB Full and Limited. Basically if you are connecting your PS3 to your TV using an HDMI cable, and if your TV supports RGB full range, the picture quality may be improved when this option is set to Full.” “Some of you pointed out that the Full setting would sometimes revert back to Limited and 1.81 will address this issue. Please keep in mind that this setting is only effective when the PS3 is connected to a TV using an HDMI cable,” he added. The update can now be downloaded online, or through the PlayStation 3's System Update option.
