Market research firm Media Create has revealed data for weekly hardware sales in Japan, for the week ending June 13th, following details of the software top thirty yesterday. As with software, hardware sales are considerably down across the board in the wake of the busy Golden Week period of holidays. As a result, sales for the PlayStation 3 have dipped below 10,000 units, to just 8,839 for the week. Although it saw sales drop by over 121,000 units, the Nintendo DS was still easily the best selling console of the week, with 163,824 unit sales overall. As a result the lifetime-to-date total for the console in Japan broke 17 million units for the first time. Sales for the Wii also almost halved, dropping by nearly 49,000 units to a total of 52,544 for the week. As has been the case for most of the year, the PSP proved the most consistent format in terms of unit sales, down just over 700 units to 34,433 in total. The PlayStation 2 was once again in fourth place, down almost 4,500 units to 10,414 and followed by the PlayStation 3 in fifth place. Once again, neither the Xbox 360 nor the PlayStation 3 had any software titles in the top fifty, with Microsoft’s next-gen console seeing hardware sales slip by over 1,000 to 2,105 units for the week. The Game Boy Advance family of consoles saw sales rise by almost 100 to 751 units, while the GameCube was down 79 units to 315.
