The launch of the PSP Go boosted sales of Sony's portable platform 120 percent week over week in the UK -- "in line with expectations," according to the company. Sony told GamesIndustry.biz that sales of the prior-edition PSP-3000 also enjoyed "a big lift," thanks to the launch of Gran Turismo on UMD and Electronic Arts' FIFA 2010. The company says that the new, UMD-less PSP Go sold equally well to the PSP-3000, although UK's Chart-Track isn't breaking out separate unit sales for the new platform. The download-only, redesigned PSP Go hardware launched in North America and the UK on October 1 for $249 and £224.99, respectively. Some analysts expect consumers to balk at the relatively high price -- the same cost as a full-size home console, thanks to recent cuts. The inability to transfer existing UMD discs to digital format is also a barrier to entry for potential early adopters. Gamasutra has contacted Sony seeking further information on the handheld's North American launch, and will update with any details we receive.
