PSP Sales Double In Japan On Peace Walker Release
Sales of PSP hardware doubled in Japan to nearly 60,000 units on the release of Konami and Hideo Kojima's latest game, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Media Create said Friday.
Sales of PSP hardware doubled week-on-week following the release of Konami and Hideo Kojima's highly-anticipated game, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, tracking firm Media Create said Friday. For the week ended May 2, PSP sold 59,315 units. Combined with PSP Go sales, total PSP hardware sales were 61,205, about double that of last week's 30,302 total. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker released on April 29 in Japan for PSP, and sold 434,366 units in its debut week, according to Media Create. The game is due in Western territories in June. Total sales of the Nintendo DS line -- including the DSi LL, DSi and DS Lite -- also saw a healthy boost to 45,265 units sold, up from the previous week's 30,105 total. All hardware saw unit sales rise to varying extents during the week. Below are the full sales rankings from Media Create for the week ended May 2, 2010.
