Blizzard has tapped Sam Raimi, director of the Spider-Man film trilogy, calling him 'the perfect choice' to direct the upcoming Legendary Pictures movie based on the World of Warcraft universe.
Sam Raimi, director of the Spider-Man film trilogy, will direct the upcoming Legendary Pictures movie based on Blizzard's World of Warcraft universe. Blizzard COO Paul Sams says Raimi's the ideal choice to direct the film. "Blizzard Entertainment and Legendary Pictures have a shared vision for this film and we searched at length to find the very best director to bring that vision to life," he says. "From our first conversation with Sam, we could tell he was the perfect choice." Raimi, a five-time Academy Award nominee, also wrote and directed The Evil Dead, produced 30 Days Of Night, and most recently wrote and directed supernatural horror flick Drag Me To Hell. "At its core, Warcraft is a fantastic, action-packed story," says Raimi. "I am thrilled to work with such a dynamite production team to bring this project to the big screen." He'll be working with producer Charles Roven, whose production credits include The Dark Knight. He'll also partner with Blizzard's senior VP of creative development, Chris Metzen, who'll serve as co-producer with Raimi and his partner, Robert Tapert. "Sam knows how to simultaneously satisfy the enthusiasts and the mainstream audience that might be experiencing that content for the first time," says Blizzard's Sams. "We’re looking forward to working with him to achieve that here."
