Former Relic Entertainment developers Smoking Gun Interactive will expand their studio and develop a secret new property thanks to a multi-year, multi-million dollar financing agreement with unnamed private investors. Best known for real-time strategy games such as Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War and Company of Heroes, former Relic employees John Johnston, Drew Dunlop, Angie Radwan-Pytlewski, Duane Pye and others formed the studio in June of last year. Staff at Smoking Gun also have experience with titles including Impossible Creatures, Homeworld, Need for Speed, NHL, NBA Live and FIFA Soccer. According to job postings on the company's website, the team is working on a "next generation cross-platform original concept title", with no further details currently available. "This injection of private capital allows us to continue to control our own destiny, and deliver on our vision of taking interactive entertainment in new directions, and redefining what tomorrow’s games can be," says CEO and creative director John Johnson. "We’ve expanded our core team with some exceptional talent, and with this financial expansion we’re now looking forward to welcoming new faces to our team and new partners to our business, as we become a leading force in independent games development,” he added.
