Report: Spy Hunter Film Green Lit, Anderson To Direct

After numerous delays, the movie adaptation of Midway's car combat franchise Spy Hunter is now apparently moving ahead, with Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, Alien vs. Predator and forthcoming Castlevania movie director Paul WS Anderson attached to direct. According to a new Variety report , Anderson plans to write the screenplay alongside an as yet unnamed writer. The project has gone through numerous writing and directing teams already, including action film icon John Woo, who was attached to the project when it was originally announced in 2004. Originally released in arcades in 1982, Spy Hunter has gone through numerous video game sequels and iterations, including its recent transition to 3D in a 2001 remake of the original for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, GameBoy Advance , and PC. While game's transforming car, known as the Interceptor, has always been the true character in the series, 2006's Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run added a human element to the series by featuring a photo-real double of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as the car's driver. The actor/professional wrestler was originally expected to play the lead role in the game's movie adaptation as well, though it remains unknown if this is still the case.
