With 3D gaming all but certain to be one of gaming's big new frontiers, television manufacturers and console platform holders have a lot to gain by putting heads together. Microsoft seems to agree, partnering with electronics giant LG in South Korea. In doing so, the company confirms its interest in positioning Xbox 360 as a part of the 3D space. The announcement, translated by consumer website Engadget, says LG and Microsoft will market 3D televisions alongside compatible Xbox 360 titles first in South Korea and then in the larger Asia Pacific region. According to the report, the joint initiative will kick off at the end of June with game and LCD TV bundles, although there are as yet no details on which Xbox 360 titles will be 3D-ready or involved in the partnership. It doesn't appear that any hardware changes on the console side are involved in the announcement; rival Sony has said it would enable 3D on all of its PlayStation 3 consoles in the near future via a firmware update. Sony has also said that "a lot" of its studios were developing stereoscopic 3D titles -- notably, the larger Sony Corporation will roll out its own line of Bravia 3D televisions later this year.
