Rockstar Games says it's just made available a patch for the PC edition of Grand Theft Auto IV to address a host of known issues that have plagued the title since its release. The studio says the new patch provides better memory management aimed at enhancing game stability, particularly on lower-end PCs, and says a fix for the ATI 1900-series video cards adds further stability and boosts the visual quality of shadows. With the new patch, players will now be able to save their custom graphics and multiplayer characters. Rockstar says it's also made several improvements to the video editor, raising rendering quality, adding "smarter" naming of videos and "better effects" for replays. The patch additionally addresses problems users have reported with movement detection using sensitive mice or gaming mice. Rockstar says the patch will add periodic CPU speed queries throughout play, rather than just at the startup screen, with the aim of smoothing framerates. Finally, German customers reported crashes after the game's legal screen, and Rockstar says the patch should fix this problem, too. In a statement, the company said it would continue offering customer support on a "case-by-case basis" via popular gaming forums. "We want to thank the GTA fan community for your endless devotion and continued support as we work through these issues," said Rockstar in a statement.
