Learning-language software developer Rosetta Stone has announced an upcoming Game Jam competition challenging amateur coders to create games that teach and motivate users. Participating teams may consist of up to four members, one of whom must be a programmer with prior experience using either Flash, XNA, OpenGL, PyGame, or other approved development platforms. Teams selected for the competition will gather at Rosetta Stone's headquarters in Harrisonburg, Virginia, on January 8th, 2010. Each team will have 48 hours to design a complete game. All games are required to teach the user something new during the course of gameplay. The winning team, as chosen by Rosetta Stone's panel of judges, will have its game published at Rosetta Stone's website, and will receive a Macbook Pro with a 30-inch cinema display and three levels of Rosetta Stone language-learning software. A runner-up prize of $500 and a Rosetta Stone software suite will be awarded to the team that earns second place in the competition. Interested developers may apply for entry by sending an e-mail to [email protected] with an answer to the prompt "Describe your passion for building games that teach and motivate people." The application deadline is November 16th, 2009.
