Saling The World: Arkham Asylum, Professor Layton Top U.S. Charts

Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide. This week's charts, with data taken from August 27th, 2009, find Batman: Arkham Asylum and Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box leading multiplatform sales in North America. Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. Wii Sports Resort leads North American Wii sales for the third week running, and continues to head the charts in the UK and Japan. The Metroid Prime series compilation Metroid Prime Trilogy makes a third place finish in its first week of release in the United States, meanwhile, beating out longtime chart favorite Mario Kart Wii in weekly sales numbers. Madden NFL 10 remains a strong seller in its second week of release, meanwhile, as budget-priced rereleases for Uncharted and Metal Gear Solid 4 put both titles back in the U.S. top five. Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box tops Nintendo DS sales in the United States this week, boosted by positive word-of-mouth and an aggressive advertising campaign. The sequel's popularity has also resulted in increased sales for Professor Layton and the Curious Village, which takes fourth in this week's regional sales results. In Japan, Tomodachi Collection trumps Dragon Quest IX for the first time in several weeks, as Nintendo's simulation title Nihon Keizai Shinbunsha Kanshuu: Shiranai Mamade wa Son o Suru Mono ya Okane no Shikumi DS premieres at third place. Dissidia's release has also sparked new interest in other PSP Final Fantasy titles. Both Final Fantasy Tactics and Crisis Core make appearances in this week's domestic top five, as Madden NFL 10 suddenly finds itself at fifth place.
