Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide. This week's charts, with data taken from August 27th, 2009, find Batman: Arkham Asylum and Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box leading multiplatform sales in North America. Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows: Nintendo Wii North America: 1. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo), 2. Wii Fit (Nintendo), 3. Metroid Prime Trilogy (Nintendo), 4. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo), 5. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 (EA Sports). Japan: 1. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo), 2. EA Sports Active (EA Sports), 3. Monster Hunter 3 Classic Controller Bundle (Capcom), 4. Wii Fit (Nintendo), 5. Monster Hunter 3 (Capcom). UK: 1. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo), 2. Wii Fit (Nintendo), 3. Ashes Cricket 09 (Codemasters), 4. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo), 5. EA Sports Active (EA Sports). Wii Sports Resort leads North American Wii sales for the third week running, and continues to head the charts in the UK and Japan. The Metroid Prime series compilation Metroid Prime Trilogy makes a third place finish in its first week of release in the United States, meanwhile, beating out longtime chart favorite Mario Kart Wii in weekly sales numbers. Grand Theft Auto IV (Rockstar). Batman: Arkham Asylum is off to a fast sales start in its first week of release, topping the Xbox 360 sales charts in the U.S. and the UK. The Collector's Edition of Arkham Asylum also manages to crack the North American top five in its debut week, landing just behind Madden NFL 10 at third place. PlayStation 3 North America: 1. The PlayStation 3 version of Batman: Arkham Asylum finishes as this week's biggest software seller across all platforms in North America, pushing Wii Sports Resort out of the overall top spot. The PS3 version of Arkham Asylum features platform-exclusive downloadable content, making it the preferred edition for many Amazon customers. Madden NFL 10 remains a strong seller in its second week of release, meanwhile, as budget-priced rereleases for Uncharted and Metal Gear Solid 4 put both titles back in the U.S. top five. Madden NFL 10 maintains its sales lead on the PlayStation 2, finishing as the platform's best seller in the United States for the second week in a row. Wolfenstein finishes third in the U.S. PC charts this week, coming up short against the combined might of The Sims 3 and World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King. The World of Warcraft Battle Chest returns to the North American charts at fourth this week, as Flight Simulator X: Gold Edition makes an appearance at fifth place. Nintendo DS North America: 1. Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box tops Nintendo DS sales in the United States this week, boosted by positive word-of-mouth and an aggressive advertising campaign. The sequel's popularity has also resulted in increased sales for Professor Layton and the Curious Village, which takes fourth in this week's regional sales results. In Japan, Tomodachi Collection trumps Dragon Quest IX for the first time in several weeks, as Nintendo's simulation title Nihon Keizai Shinbunsha Kanshuu: Shiranai Mamade wa Son o Suru Mono ya Okane no Shikumi DS premieres at third place. Dissidia Final Fantasy leads PSP sales in North America in its debut week, leaving last week's chart champion God of War: Chains of Olympus at second place. Dissidia's release has also sparked new interest in other PSP Final Fantasy titles. Both Final Fantasy Tactics and Crisis Core make appearances in this week's domestic top five, as Madden NFL 10 suddenly finds itself at fifth place.
