Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide. This week's charts, with data taken from April 24th, 2008, find Square Enix's The World Ends With You leading North American Nintendo DS software sales, as Persona 3 FES takes top honors on the PlayStation 2. Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows: Nintendo Wii North America: 1. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Nintendo), 2. Wii Play (Nintendo), 3. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Bundle (Activision), 4. Wii Zapper with Link's Crossbow Training (Nintendo), 5. Super Mario Galaxy (Nintendo). Japan: 1. Brawl retakes its sales lead in North America this week after previously being beaten out by a discounted Guitar Hero III. Wii Play also mounts a sales comeback, leaving Guitar Hero III at third place in this week's results. North American Wii sales at Amazon continue to be headed by preorders for Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit, meanwhile. As is currently the case in Japan and Europe, Mario Kart Wii is expected to arrive as next week's top U.S. Wii seller, and could maintain its place atop the chart for weeks to come. A temporary price drop at Amazon drives up demand for the Collector's Edition of Devil May Cry 4 in North America this week. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare holds on to its lead for now, though next week's results are expected to be headed by Grand Theft Auto IV, which currently tops Xbox 360 software preorders in North America and the UK. Grand Theft Auto IV can be expected to make a big sales impression next week on the PlayStation 3, with Amazon reporting a surge of preorders in the days leading up to its release. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue continues to drive sales for the platform in the meantime, with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare trailing close behind. Japan's PlayStation 3 chart finds a new leader in Sega's Senjou no Valkyria, which sees fast sales in its first week of release. PlayStation 2 North America: 1. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 FES debuts as this week's top software seller across all platforms in North America, edging out competition from Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Given the high level of preorder demand generated in the weeks prior to its release, Persona 3 FES could be in for a long stay among the United States' top weekly PS2 sellers. Rock Band sees a sales boost this week thanks to a small drop in price at Amazon, while Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection slips to third place. PC North America: 1. Preorder demand for the upcoming MMORPG Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures has been on the rise for the past several weeks in North America, and this week sees both the regular and special editions of the title topping regional PC presales. Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning also makes an early appearance among Amazon's top PC presellers, but places a distant third to both editions of Hyborian Adventures. Professor Layton and the Curious Village falls out of North America's weekly list of top DS sellers for the first time since its release, as Square Enix's The World Ends With You tops regional sales in its first week on store shelves. Nintendo's just-released roguelike pair Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time also make strong sales debuts this week, leaving longtime chart favorites New Super Mario Bros. and Brain Age 2 at the bottom of the top five. This week's sales results reflect increased demand for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories in the United States. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII keeps its sales lead, meanwhile, as Vantage Master Portable and Minna no Chizu 3 challenge Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G's chart supremacy in Japan.
