GenArts Inc. today announced that it will release a line of Sapphire Plug-ins (for digital, visual effects) for Discreet on the Linux operating system. The product is available for $6,000, and its release coincides with Discreet’s release of “flint and smoke” for Linux. Sapphire Plug-ins for Linux, which are integrated directly into the Discreet user interface, include about 200 image processing and synthesis effects, such as Glows, EdgeRays, LensFlare, Glint, Blurs, RackDefocus, Lightning Zaps, JpegDamage, HalfTone, and Textures. More information and product downloads are available from GenArts’ web site, and are on being demonstrated today, tomorrow, and Friday at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York as part of the DV Expo East.
