Sega has announced that Sonic the Hedgehog will be returning to Sony's PSP this fall in the handheld exclusive Sonic Rivals 2, with a new battle mode and other new features. A sequel to last year's 2D platformer, Sega says Sonic Rivals 2 will feature a "revamped rival 'jostling' gameplay system for tighter head-to-head competition," with upgraded power-ups and range weapons. The game will also see a new battle mode with six different multiplayer challenges for two players, which can be played using just one disc over the PSP's wireless function. Also new to the game is a single-player "free play" mode, giving gamers the option to "enjoy each level at their own pace" with a number of new characters, including Miles "Tails" Prower with their unique signature moves. Finally, the game's card trading and collection mode has been updated with 150 more cards allowing character customization with new track suits, and unlockable PSP backgrounds and Cup Circuits.
