Hoping to inject life into one of its most well-known game characters, Sega said today that a new television cartoon starring Sonic the Hedgehog will debut in Japan.
The new series will launch in April on TV Tokyo, one of Japan's major broadcasters. The company hopes that the cartoon will do for Sega's game business what the "Pokemon" cartoon did for Nintendo's game business. The series will debut in the United States and Europe this Fall. Sega said is plans to release four Sonic-based games this year in Japan and five in the US and Europe, while Sega's toy unit will release Sonic toys.
