Today's main feature written for Gamasutra sister site Serious Games Source, which deals with games created for training, health, government, military, educational and other uses, takes a look back at E3 2006, which went on earlier this month, from a serious games perspective. Specifically, the site sat down and spoke with Ben Sawyer, who serves as co-director of the Serious Games Initiative as well as Games for Health, to get his take on E3, and what it means for serious games. In this excerpt, Sawyer gives his thoughts on why he beleves all major publishers will soon all have a foot in serious game waters: "I believe that every company in the games space will have a serious games related business position in the next ten years. The problem with that is, at face value, I think that statement causes people to disagree because they don't understand the framework by which that could happen and NOT be disruptive to the existing ways the game industry operates now. So I'm working on a presentation and whitepaper to explain that better, and when I do I think people will understand that a) this is true and b) much of this is already happening. Square Enix is a great example of that, and I had the honor of sitting down with them during E3 by chance meeting. We spoke about this very issue, and their thinking about how serious games can be an outlet economically for them is very savvy - and spoke to much of what I will present later this year." You can now read the full Serious Games Source feature on the subject, including more of Sawyer's serious E3 thoughts (no registration required, please feel free to link to this feature from external websites).
