Sierra Entertainment has announced that the video game adaptation of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Films' upcoming film The Spiderwick Chronicles is in development by Stormfront Studios (The Lord of the Rings The Two Towers, Eragon) for release on the Wii and Xbox 360, as well as the PlayStation 2, Nintendo DS, and PC in Febrary 2008. Sierra notes that the game “will recreate the fantastical world of the Spiderwick film and best-selling book series,” and will feature multiple playable characters, each with unique abilities. The Spiderwick Chronicles is based upon a popular series of illustrated children's books by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi in which twin brothers Jared and Simon, along with their sister Mallory Grace, move into the Spiderwick Estate, which they quickly discover is infested with faeries and other magical creatures. Al Simone, senior vice president of global marketing for Sierra Entertainment, commented that the The Spiderwick Chronicles game will “authentically recreate the world of Jared, Simon and Mallory Grace, putting gamers in their shoes as they discover a hidden world of fantastical creatures-sprites, ogres, goblins, brownies and more.” “Fans of the Spiderwick books now not only have the movie to look forward to, but will be able to live in their favorite fantasy world in this adventure filled game," he added.
