After what some have called a tepid reception in Japan, PSX, the hybrid game console, DVD recorder machine will not be released in the U.S. and Europe in time for the winter 2004 holiday season. Maker Sony has delayed the release to buy some time and make the device more appealing to the Western consumers, possibly adding previously unannounced features. The version currently available in Japan does not contain all the originally advertised components and capability, such as MP3 and DVD-RW functions. In a Sony financial report from earlier this year, the company placed great emphasis on how sales of the PSX could help boost operating profits.
