Sony: No Worldwide PS3 Price Cuts Expected

According to a new report, Sony president Ryoji Chubachi has reiterated that the company has no plans to roll out further PlayStation 3 price cuts outside the U.S. in the foreseeable future, but stops short of ruling the idea out entirely. A Bloomberg report quotes the company president as saying no price cuts are planned "at this point," though Chubachi added "About the future, no comment." Sony's reported four year high fourth quarter losses of ¥67.6 billion ($560.4m) in May, which lessened slightly in its first quarter after an increase in PS3 sales was shown. The company has also said that following its U.S. $100 price cut of the 60GB model, sales of the console increased by 135 percent. SCEE president David Reeves recently admitted that a price cut was considered in that region, but felt sales weren't "doing that badly," and so instead opted for a new PlayStation 3 bundle, including an extra controller and two free games. He did go on to hint, though, that a UK price cut could well occur before Christmas this year, but refused to give any definitive statement, indicating that it “would get me into tremendous hot water”.
