Following on from the company’s public expo event in Japan over the weekend, in which a number of new games were announced, officials from Square Enix have confirmed four new titles in the Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy series for North America. An almost week long series of announcements prior to the Japanese expo has seen the company announce new games such as Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 intellectual property The Last Remnant, which is to be released simultaneously in Japan and North America, several Star Ocean titles, Final Fantasy XII: International Zodiac Job System for the PlayStation 2, Chocobo’s Dungeon for the Wii and many others. The Western release dates for these newly announced titles are unknown, but the company has now confirmed that the previously revealed Dragon Quest Monsters – Joker will be released this autumn on the Nintendo DS. The title has so far proven highly successful for Square Enix on Nintendo’s portable format in Japan and has been widely praised for its 3D graphics and Pokemon style gameplay. Also confirmed for a Western release, but with a release date yet to be announced, is Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors for the Wii. The title is due to go on sale in Japan in July and features on-the-rails first person action gameplay. Ivalice Alliance Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions for PSP has a more concrete release date of October 2007, in both North American and Europe. It is an enhanced remake of the original Final Fantasy Tactics game for the original PlayStation, and is set within the same fantasy world of Ivalice as Final Fantasy XII. Finally, Square Enix has also confirmed Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings for the Nintendo DS for this winter. The game is a direct sequel to Final Fantasy XII on the PlayStation 2 and is currently at the top of the Japanese sales charts. Combat in the game is both real-time and more tactical than the PS2 original, and has been compared to both Final Fantasy Tactics and the Tactics Ogre series.
