UK-based Stainless Games said Friday that its collectible card game, Magic: The Gathering -- Duels of the Planeswalkers, has passed the 500,000 unit sales mark on Xbox Live Arcade. The game is published by Wizards of the Coast, and released on Microsoft's console digital storefront on June 17, 2009. Stainless Games COO Matt Edmunds told Gamasutra that the sales milestone only accounts for the base Xbox Live Arcade game, and does not include unit sales for any of the expansions or add-ons for the title. Since its release on Xbox Live Arcade, the game also launched as a digital download for Windows in June 2010, and on PlayStation 3 in November 2010. Stainless Games is also behind the well-received Risk Factions, a top-selling game on Xbox Live Arcade, published by Electronic Arts last year. The game is also available for download from PlayStation Network. A recent analysis from Gamasutra sister site GamerBytes found that Risk Factions sold nearly 200,000 copies on Xbox Live Arcade by the end of December, according to leaderboard data. Duels of the Planeswalkers was not part of the breakdown due to insufficient leaderboard data. Stainless Games, which claims to be "Europe's leading console download studio," is currently at work on a Magic: The Gathering-themed space for Sony's PlayStation Home virtual world. The studio has released 25 download SKUs to date, with more in the works. "With our multiplatform technology, we'll be hoping to emulate the success of Duels for other brands on everything from an iPhone to a high-end PC and keep up our track record of at least one no. 1 [release] per year," said Edmunds in a press statement.
