Opinion: How will Project 2025 impact game developers?
The Heritage Foundation's manifesto for the possible next administration could do great harm to many, including large portions of the game development community.
Capcom veteran and Resident Evil franchise producer Jun Takeuchi will not be involved in the series' expected sixth installment, working instead on projects including a collaboration with Mega Man's Keiji Inafune.
Popular Capcom producer Jun Takeuchi left his mark with Resident Evil 5, but it seems the series' next installment will be bereft of his input while he works on other projects. Andriasang translated an interview with Japanese site 4Gamer in which Takeuchi said he's working on several future projects, none of which include the classic franchise: "I'm not involved in Resident Evil 6," Takeuchi said. "There's actually a number of things I want to do." It's unclear whether Capcom has actively started development on the next game in the Resident Evil franchise as of yet -- Resident Evil 5, helmed by Takeuchi, was released in March 2009 and has sold through 5.3 million copies as of December 2009. Takeuchi, who in addition to the Resident Evil franchise has served as producer on other Capcom properties like Lost Planet and Onimusha 3, was hesitant to detail his current work: "If I say it like that, it might be taken as 'next game,' but before reaching the step of making a game, we -- Japanese developers -- have a lot of things that we must do," he says. "To begin, I have a number of things I'd like to do related to Capcom as a whole," he adds, implying that his responsibilities at the publisher have increased since the success of Resident Evil 5. "This year's Capcom is very interesting," he said. "The titles we'll announce in the future will surprise many people." Takeuchi indicated he's been working with fellow Capcom veteran, Mega Man character creator and Dead Rising producer Keiji Inafune "over the past year", and that the fruits of their labors will be announced "this year."
