Greetings adventure gamers. My name is Randell Trulson, and I’ve been in the gaming industry for a very long time. Probably longer than some of you have been alive! As such I’ve been threatening to develop a point-n-click adventure game now for 20 years. Well here it goes! I’m doing it. If you haven’t already figured it out, the name of the game is Absolute Zero. I will be blogging here on a regular basis giving updates, screenshots, and behind the scenes shots of the development of the game.

The game is being developed using Cortex, our proprietary game engine. Cortex is a cross platform development engine/system that allows for plugins to be added to facilitate specific genres. So for example, to build a point-n-click adventure game there are lots of things that I would need to code that are proprietary to that genre, things that wouldn’t be needed in other types of games. So the Cortex engine doesn’t pack that code around with it. It is light and agile like a shadow ninja on crystal meth…only it doesn’t loose its teeth from hitting the meth pipe!

So I also developed Legend, which is the point-n-click development platform and plugin for the Cortex engine. Legend took me about a year to build, and has its own WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) game editor. This affords us the ability to keep our team size very small since we don’t need but one coder since programming anything is pretty rare.
