Longstanding Yorkshire developer The Code Monkeys has confirmed it's made recent staff cuts, following media reports that widespread redundancies were in effect. In response to a VG247 report claiming "most - if not all - staff" had been laid off at the veteran studio, which now develops Wii Ware and mobile games, studio development director Adam Hirsch verified the layoffs but declined to specify how many were affected. "The Code Monkeys reduced staffing levels based on our current production needs and predictions of what is needed for 2010," Hirsch said in a statement. He said the studio had five titles in development: Three PSP Minis, Manic Monkey Mayhem, Postman Pat and Casper's Scare School; two mobile titles, Manic Monkey Pool and MYFC, and Triple Shot Sports for Wii Ware. The Code Monkeys, founded in 1988, is known as one of the oldest independent studios in the UK, and has developed some 200 games in its history for platforms like the MSX (Operation Wolf) and Amstrad.
