Opinion: How will Project 2025 impact game developers?
The Heritage Foundation's manifesto for the possible next administration could do great harm to many, including large portions of the game development community.
Through a new deal, THQ earns the right to develop Nintendo games based on game shows Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune that will use Wii Speak to "re-imagine how these games are played."
Publisher THQ has signed a multi-year licensing agreement with Sony Pictures Consumer Products to develop games on two major game show properties: Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune. THQ can publish games based on the two iconic television shows on Nintendo platforms only for now, though its deal grants it options for additional platforms. It appears the first games resulting from the deal, which are set for later this year, will use the Wii Speak functionality. Jeopardy! is a long-running quiz show hosted by Alex Trebek, where participants choose quiz answers -- for which they must determine the question -- by category and dollar bet from an iconic blue board. Wheel of Fortune requires players to spin a large segmented wheel to earn prizes as they try to guess words by betting on individual letters. "We are excited to add two iconic properties such as Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune to our Kids, Family and Casual Games portfolio,” says THQ Kids, Family and Casual games president Doug Clemmer. He adds, "The opportunity to implement new features such as Wii Speak will re-imagine how these games are played and engage fans with a whole new level of interactivity."
