Melbourne-based Transmission Games, the developer known for Heroes Over The Pacific, Heroes Over Europe and Ashes Cricket 2009, has shut its doors. Gamasutra sources confirmed a report originally published by the Australian arm of consumer site Kotaku indicating that the studio, failing to secure new publishing deals, was forced to let all its staff go and enter administration this morning. A month ago in September, the studio had to lay off some 20 staffers, even as Ashes Cricket 2009 -- published by Codemasters in the UK and Atari in Australia -- topped the UK sales charts. Before this, late last year, a GameSpot Australia report pegged the company's overall staff count at 135, one of the larger game developers in Australasia. Founded in 1996 and one of the longest running Australian studios, Transmission Games was known as IR Gurus, until it adopted its current moniker in 2008. It has broadly focused on sport- and flight-related games.
