3D model online marketplace Turbo Squid has announced the launching of GameFlood, a new portal for the creation and playing of "add-on" game content, most notably maps and mods. Turbo Squid says the GameFlood portal and platform will "dramatically improve the experience for players of add-on content, while also serving to bridge the gap between 3D modelers, add-on developers, and game publishers." The portal promises a "secure hosting environment" playing and trading mods and maps for a number of the top PC games, including Half-Life 2, Unreal Tournament 2004, Counter Strike: Source, Oblivion, Grand Theft Auto, and Age of Empires. The company hopes that the launch will see a community flourish giving developers access to a "pool of 3D models and artists, as well as free project management and bug-tracking tools," and is working with publishers to create partnerships with mod and mapmaking developers. Said Turbo Squid CEO Matthew Wisdom, "GameFlood harnesses the strength of Turbo Squid's community of artists, matches them up with developers, and provides them with resources to create mods, maps, and other cutting-edge add-on content. We're proud to introduce this platform to address the unmet needs of the market and offer a compelling destination for all members of the gaming community."
